You have reached the right place. We will tell you everything you need in this article to help you make the right decision and have a flag that you’ll be proud of.
Four main considerations are required when purchasing an American flag.
Country of Manufacture
Country of Manufacture
Let’s take a look at the country of manufacturing. This is a simple issue. American flags are readily available from many countries. As you may have noticed, China is a major manufacturer, as is Mexico. It is not patriotic to buy a US flag from another country. A Chinese-made flag is a good choice if you are looking for the lowest cost. A flag that is made in the USA can be purchased for a fraction of the price.
Let’s move on to materials. Three primary materials are used to create flags: nylon (polyester), cotton (polyester), and cotton. Each material has its advantages. Some materials are better suited for certain locations, while others may not be suitable depending on your intended use.
Cotton – cotton – is a beautiful fabric. This fabric is ideal for flags indoors. The colors can be vibrant and rich. A flag can be softly folded due to its “body”, and look beautiful in an indoor setting.
Nylon flags can be used outdoors with the nylon flag. Nylon, which is lightweight, flies well in gentle breezes. It can also be very strong. SolarMax by DuPont is the most famous flag nylon. SolarMax is the most durable and colorfast nylon. Other nylons may appear similar to SolarMax, but they don’t have the same durability or colorfastness. Nylon flags may appear translucent which may make them look less attractive.
Polyester – This one’s tricky. Polyester flags may be the most expensive or toughest flags. How could this be? It all comes down the weight. Most flags made of inexpensive polyester will say “Lightweight and printed polyester”. The keywords “lightweight” (or “printed”) will tell you all that you need. This flag may be used indoors for display purposes where quality does not matter.
However, if you want the most durable flag possible, you will need a “two-ply”, or double-weight, polyester flag. These flags are made of double-thickness fabric. These flags often have sewn stars and stripes.
